This film is also knows as Night is Not for Sleep. Robert Hossein was writer, director and star of the suspense melodrama Toi... le Venin. Picked up by a beautiful motorist, jobless hitchhiker Pierre (Hossein) is subsequently romanced by the girl. Immediately thereafter, however, she dumps him, attempting to run him over as a final insult. Memorizing her license number, Pierre pursues the enigmatic motorist. Arriving at her home, Pierre is met by two young ladies (Marina Vlady and Odelle Versois), either one of whom might be the woman he's looking for. The rest of the film concerns Pierre's efforts to figure out which of his two hostesses intends to do him further harm.

5 of 5 Great film, solid service from Movie Detective July 5, 2023

This is a particularly cool French Noir film, which was more of a mystery/ suspense than an action film. The story seems to exist in a dream, where things don't really add up, until the end. A fun watch. The quality of the film was great and as usual, Movie Detective was reliable and easy to work with.

5 of 5 Super thriller by Robert Hossein. April 7, 2018

MovieDetective came through with flying colours again and I was able to see one of my all-time favourite French noirs once more[next to "Les salauds vont en enfer", also available from MD]. You will love the Poliakoff sisters, better known as Marina Vlady and Odile Versois, who are doing an excellent job and will have you guessing to the very end who is "IT", or "done the evil deed". The film moves along at a good clip, but mind you, not too fast, just enough to keep you at the edge of your seat.
As a bonus there is a nifty musical score by Andre Gosselain [so the credits say], who is actually Andre Hossein and happens to be Robert Hossein's father. Yes, FATHER.
Enjoy!
PS: About the sisters. This is no mistake. Vlady and Versois were sisters in real life. Unfortunately the latter died much too soon.
