In Czech with English subtitles. Also known as Císaruv Pekar - Pekaruv Císar.

The Czechoslovakian The Emperor and the Golem is actually a "double feature." For American distribution purposes, two Czech productions, The Emperor's Baker and The Baker's Emperor, have been re-edited and spliced together into a single 163 minute feature. Jan Werich stars as a humble baker who happens to be the exact double of a powerful European emperor. The two men decide to switch identities, and have a wonderful time indulging in their respective new lifestyles. The fairy-tale costume designs were handled by famed Czech animator Jiri Trnka.

3 of 5 Charmingly Done January 24, 2019
Reviewer: Patrick Hunter from Panorama City, CA United States
A charmingly done comedy presented in lavish color with much light-hearted humor throughout.  Yes, it has a golem, but it's not a remake of the previous versions of The Golem done by Julien Duvivier and Paul Wegener.  It's too whimsical and fun-loving for that.  Also, the golem only appears in the last 30 minutes of a 160 minute duo-movie-as-one.  That said, the golem is one imposing statue that suits the whole gala affair.
