Le Schpountz is a very fun film. It again proves that Marcel Pagnol was an excellent director and an even better writer. Fernandel's acting is sublime. Good print.

An undeservedly little known (in U.S.) French comedy, starring Fernandel, a great comic actor, as a small town schlub with the pipe-dream of making it big on the silver screen. A number of scenes of subtle and heart-felt pathos, and wonderful ending. Written and directed by Marcel Pagnol, of My Mother's Castle and My Father's Glory fame. Resolution on this transfer is reasonably good. Rare spots of subtitles sped over and murky audio. Since this film has been shown only once on TCM, this was a good purchase.
