Widescreen. Vittorio Borghi (Enrico Maria Salerno), a middle-aged jouranlist, feels that his life has passed him by. He has a loveless marriage, but his wife wants him to pay more attention to her as well as their baby; he has a beautiful mistress, Elena (Jacqueline Sassard), who is no longer satisfied being just a mistress and wants a commitment from him. His job as a journalist, too, has lost its meaning. In an effort to find himself again, he returns to his home town of Matua, where he re-vists friends he hasn't seen in years, and we see how Vittorio's life among them once was.
