Widescreen. Directed by Luigi Comencini. Set in a small Italian village in the 1940s, La Ragazza di Bube tells the story of a woman (Claudia Cardinale) who falls in love with a complete stranger (George Chakiris). The stranger turns out to have killed a fascist policeman during World War II and is sent to jail for 14 years. The woman pines for the convict and waits out his sentence, spurning the love of a writer (Marc Michel) who wants to marry her.

I had always wanted to see this film starring the young Claudia Cardinale and George Chakiris, who I assume was dubbed by an Italian voice actor.  The copy I bought from MovieDetective looked like it had just been released.  Perfect, clear black & white.  I have found this to be true of most if not all of the foreign films I've bought from this site.  Very pleased!

...may make for strange bedfellows, but work wonderfully in this superb drama.  Wonderful story, direction, cinematography and performances.  A real find.

I saw this movie a long time ago and I loved it.  For many years I wanted to see it again, but I never could find it.   I didn’t know if I would like it the same way after so much time.   Now, I have it thanks to Movie Detective and I love it as the first time.  It’s the story of a woman and a man in love with each other, but unfortunately for both, he is a partisan,  a revolutionary, a communist (you name it), with the Italian law after him.  She loves him because she is his girl, and therefore she waits for him to resolve whatever.  She does not share his ideals; she is not even interested on them.  She just loves him.   Claudia Cardinale never looked so good as in this movie.  George Chakiris  seems somehow repressed, but I guess that’s the character he portrays.  
I love this movie and I love Movie Detective!

I've always known this film as Bebo's Girl, but I never was able to see it. Movie Detective's anamorphic widescreen DVD is quite simply a dream come true. Thanks, loved it and will cherish it in my collection.
