Description

This is a region-free DVD-R without case or artwork.

In French with English subtitles. The title translates to 'The House Under the Sea'.

Flore (Romance) is the dutiful wife or iron miner Lucien (Guy Decomble). As we become aware of the hardships endured by iron miners, we also become aware of a growing dissatisfaction in Flore - although she loves her husband, she's bored, and has become aware of time passing to little effect. When a newcomer to the town, Constant (Clément Duhour) takes her to a cave he calls his 'house beneath the sea', she begins falling in love with him, even as Constant and Lucien become friends...

This film marked Anouk Aimée's film debut at the age of 14. Cinematography by Claude Renoir.

If one needs a reminder that France was once a nation with lots of gritty industrial towns, seek ye no further. Viviane Romance is cast against vampy exotic type, and dominates the film. Nothing sappy about the conclusion, which keeps you guessing right up to the end.
