One of Claude Chabrol's earlier and less popular films about a Satanic bisexual playboy (played to perfection by Jean-Claude Brialy) seeking revenge against an arrogant hipster. He uses Bernadette Lafont as the bait to trap this guy into his web. The first half of the film is played as a Richard Lester-style romp, all zany pranks on stuffy old folks with strippers and stink bombs. By the second half Chabrol makes the pranks darker and meaner and anything resembling comedy is long gone. I thought this was more focused than Les Bonnes Femmes and livelier than The Third Lover.
