This 1959 release is distinguished by being (1) directed by Javier Bardem's uncle and (2) the first movie from Spain to have been nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film. It's in color, unusual for foreign movies of that time, and the color camera work is well done. The plot and character interplay are not over-complicated. En toto, the Oscar nomination is deserved.
