Philandering Commander Max Easton (Mason), now desk-bound and under-worked in the Admiralty, finds he suddenly needs to make some money when he falls for American Virginia Killain. When he hatches a plot to disappear in circumstances that suggest he has defected and then return to sue the papers, Virginia doesn't take much notice - at least at first.

A surprisingly fine copy of a hard-to-find movie.

I saw this James Mason classic just once, in 1962, and it has stuck with me since.  Finding it in DVD is a real delight!

When asked which of his films was his favorite, James Mason is said to have picked " A touch of Larceny ". One of my favorite films as well. This is one of those forgotten jewels.

5 of 5 A neglected British charmer May 11, 2017

A very amusing British comedy with the three stars well-used and James Mason at his tip-top best in what was his first lead role in a comedy.

5 of 5 A rare gem March 29, 2017
Reviewer: Ron from Houston, TX United States
This is a wonderful film that covers a lot of different genres which makes it so unique. Romance, intrigue, drama and bits of comedy set within the background of the cold war with Russia, we have James Mason as the charming Navy Commander, hero of World War II and bored with his post war office job and is hot pursuit of the beautiful Vera Miles.  With so many twists and turns the story takes and the rich and witty dialog, it's thoroughly entertaining. Most likely some sort of tricky legal problem has kept this jewel of film from being available commercially.  This truly captures the mood and suspicions that were experienced from the 1950 through the early 60s. Check it out!
