The life of Mario De Santis (Mastroianni), toothpaste salesman, husband of Valeria, and the father of a child, is shaken to its foundations when he is charged with bigamy. At the police station, De Santis admits that some years ago he had married a certain Isolina (Franca Valeri) in the city of Forlimpopoli. Confronted with Mario, she recognizes him as her lawfully wedded husband. Faced with this situation, and realizing he could lose his with and child, De Santis loses control and ends up under arrest.

Also with Giovanna Ralli and the great Vittorio De Sica.

I have purchased several dozen movies from here over the last few months & I have yet to be disappointed. Every vintage foreign film (mainly French or Italian) I have watched has been excellent in every way - video clarity, sound, and especially the hard-to-find clear & well-translated English captions that one can seldom find on sites like Amazon.

Mastroianni's disbelief/despair and the chaos created within two families feels very real. De Sica enters to shred the limits of propriety in a role that shares similarities to Richard Gere's in Chicago. Franca Valeri is maddeningly prissy as the claimant wife. The supporting cast is stellar.
