Directed by Georges Lautner. Newly arrived in Paris, Galia (Mireille Darc) lives in a small apartment near Notre-Dame cathedral. One evening, while walking along the banks of the River Seine, Galia saves a young woman from drowning. The woman, Nicole (Françoise Prévost), tells Galia that she intended to drown herself, having left a suicide note for her husband, Greg (Venantino Venantini). Having settled Nicole in her apartment, Galia sets out to recover the suicide note, but waits so that she can observe Greg's reaction. When Greg appears unmoved by the note, Galia decides to wait for him at the art gallery where he works. She follows him to a swimming pool where he meets up with another woman. Galia relays all this back to Nicole, who is disappointed but not surprised by Greg's behavior. After a weekend together in Venice, Galia realizes she's in love with Greg, but she doesn't know she's fallen into the same deadly trap as Nicole...

I'm very pleased with my experience of ordering this French movie DVD from your website.  The clarity of the movie print and subtitles was outstanding.  Communication was good and shipping relatively fast.  Best of all, the movie was in the original French instead of Italian which I was expecting. SO much the better for that. It plays perfectly on Region 1 (United States) DVD players.

Excellent quality DVD, as always from MovieDetective. As for the movie itself - it may appeal to admirers of Claude Chabrol: some horrible male characters, a  psychological drama that maintains interest with its unexpected turns.

GALIA is about a young woman, a member of the sexual revolution, who embarks on a dangerous affair. The film has much that we associate with European art cinema of the sixties: the decadent rich, glimpses of female nudity, crisp black and white photography, effective music, fine performances, and strong direction. A lot of the music here is by J. S. Bach, and it is marvelously arranged; the performances are by Darc, Venantini, and Provost - all notables; and the direction is by Lautner, a director who appreciates enticing plots.
