Description

This is a region-free DVD+R without case or artwork.

In French with English subtitles. Also known as Blood and Roses.

Widescreen. Previously filmed in 1932 as Vampyr, Sheridan LeFanu's classic psychological horror tale was given a second go round in 1961 as Et Mourir de Plaisir. While Carl Theodor Dreyer concentrated on mood and suspense in Vampyr, Et Mourir de Plaisir director Roger Vadim goes directly to the jugular, so to speak, with generous doses of eerie eroticism. Annette Vadim plays Carmilla, who upon learning that she had a vampire ancestor becomes obsessed with finding out even more. Soon Carmilla has succumbed to the siren song of vampirism, and cannot quench her insatiable thirst for human blood.

4 of 5 Very subdued and haunting... April 8, 2017

This is a very fine copy, that's anamorphic, and that showcases Claude Renoir's subtle cinematography very well.  Those who know the film only via the US version (called "Blood and Roses") will be surprised by just how much the original French one differs, beginning with its more ambiguous title.

5 of 5 Romances & Vampires December 31, 2016
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Homestead, FL United States
This is the original French version, not to be confused with a lamentable American version which I had watched before, and it stands among the most alluring vampires movies.  The plot is just inspired by the novel “Carmilla” by Sheridan LeFanu, but instead of being a faithful adaptation, is a  mix of romances and vampires with an exquisite  score.   The photography’s   color and lightning give us the proper gothic atmosphere, the acting is very good with a perfect casting and Vadim’s direction is great this time.
