A movie I thought I'd never see
July 14, 2023
Reviewer: Wayne Tutzauer from LAKEWOOD, NJ United States
This film by claude Lelouch is impossible to find unless you are willing to shell out $60 or more. I've listened to the Francis Lai soundtrack hundreds of times and I needed to put the music in context.
The DVD arrived intact, quickly, and with subtitles available. Very happy with this purchase.

Thanks a lot for English subtitle!! This DVD made in France has no subtitle, so I could not have watched this splendid movie. Naturally no products in Japan. Thanks again!!

So glad I found Movie Detective! I'd been searching in vain for 1 year to find a non-regional copy of Vivre pour Vivre - no success.
This film is from 1967 & no other site had it!.
Movie Detective sent it promptly. I held my breath to see if it would play on a US dvd. Success at last. Movie Detective is the greatest!

The Music and Girardot Are Excellent
January 13, 2017
Reviewer: Chris Kuykendall from Austin, TX United States
Yves Montand is a Hemingwayesque documentary filmmaker, who chases metaphorical bullfight spectacles. He interviews African mercenaries and follows Vietnam bloodshed, but with detachment that normally doesn't require immersal into the bullfighter/bull violence. Travels create chances to cheat on his wife, Annie Girardot. The film never dips far qualitatively without a bounce-back to the central infidelity. Its climb begins at one hour, when Montand and Girardot go to Amsterdam. "Vivre Pour Vivre" commences to be more musically pervasive, starting with a scene on a Dutch bridge, and combines with Girardot's performance, which blossoms from a supporting to a lead role, to increase one's comfort with how the film often foregoes dialogue and depicts moving and talking but with a viewer only watching characters as if out of earshot, hearing background noise or overlay music rather than conversation. Girardot is excellent even when absent script to deliver.
