5 of 5 Six scene 1955 Italian film with subtitles September 25, 2024

The final episode is magnificently acted and scripted.  It could have been an Oscar nomination for actress Magnani (which she won for her next film, The Rose Tattoo).  I happened to like the comedic scenes as well.  Very eclectic.

The English subtitles are easy to read.

This is one of the finest films from the great post-war era of Italian movies.  Seven vignettes, each starring a great actor or actress, ranging from comic to tragic.

One of the great Italian comedies of the Fifties, finally with clear English subtitles, so that it is easier now to fully appreciate the greart performances by Toto, Paolo  Stoppa, Vittorio de Sica and Sophia Lopren. The film is an absolute masterpiece. I am delighted with this excellent copy.

In 1952, I still lived in Naples. I remember seeing la Loren filming on Via Caracciolo. I first saw this film in Naples, before emigrating. Great stories, cinematography, acting, and it resonates with Naples as the melody. Wonderful

A most unusual film for anyone interested, as I am, in Naples, this being the Naples of another time. If you are looking for action or plots this is not the film for you, but if you are looking for slices of real life, then it most certainly is. Sophia Loren, in an early role, is very good but Silvana Mangano is unforgettable, especially in the final long take. This film was an early instance of the great Italian verismo film-making.
